There are many scenarios in which they can appear alone; however, they are mostly seen in huge chains containing individual salps linked together. Phronima used to attack them and make their hosts. Now, with the help of their front claws, Phronima engrave their body to leave them empty barrel structure. It then climbs inside the body and sails through the sea.
