The United States of America is made up of 50 unique and individual states that are very distinguishable. Each of these 50 states is a federated state of the United States of America that shares sovereignty with the federal government. 1.Rhode Island – 4,001 km²

Rhode Island is the smallest state by area in the United States of America. The official full name of this state is “State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations”. The state’s highest natural point is Jerimoth Hill situated at 247 meters above the sea level. The island has 2 national parks and 9 state parks. In terms of population, the state is the seventh least populous but it ranks second in terms of population density. The most populous city in the state is Providence, which is also the state capital.

Rhode Island is surrounded by Connecticut in the west and Massachusetts in the north and east, and along the water boundary southwest, it borders with New York’s Long Island. The state is nicknamed “The Ocean State” because of its geographical situation. The island was founded by Roger Williams in 1636 who has been banished from the Massachusetts colony.

2.Delaware – 6,446 km²

Delaware is the second smallest state in the United States of America. It is surrounded by Maryland in the south and west, by Pennsylvania in the north, and by New Jersey and the Atlantic Ocean in the east. The capital of the state is Dover and it is the second-largest state city in the state. The state has 1 national park &17 state parks. It is located in the “South-Atlantic” or the “Southern” region of the country. Wilmington is the largest city in Delaware.

3.Connecticut – 14,357 km²

Connecticut is the third smallest state in the United States of America. It is surrounded by Rhode Island in the east, Massachusetts in the north, and the state of New York in the west and the south. It shares the south water boundary with the Long Island Sound. The state is nicknamed as the “Constitution State”, the “Nutmeg State”, the “Provisions State”, and the “Land of Steady Habits”.

The capital of Connecticut is Hartford and it is the second-largest city in the state.

The state is also popular for its natural beauty, mountains, clear skies, and sandy beaches. The highest peak in New Hampshire is Mount Washington also known as Agiocochook by some of the American Tribes.

6.Vermont – 24,906 km²

Vermont is the sixth smallest state in the United States of America. It is surrounded by Massachusetts in the south, New Hampshire in the east, New York in the west, and the Canadian province of Quebec in the north. Vermont is the smallest landlocked state in the country as well. The state is also known as the leading producer of maple syrup.

7.Massachusetts – 27,336 km²

Massachusetts is one of the most populous and smallest states in the United States located in the New England region of the northeastern United States. The capital city of the state of Boston and it is the most populous municipality of Massachusetts. The highest point of the state is Mount Greylock at a height of 1,063 meters situated at the northwest corner of the state.

8.Hawaii – 28,313 km²

Hawaii is the eighth smallest state in the United States of America and lies in the Pacific United States. It is the only state in the United States composed entirely of islands and to be geographically located in the “Oceania”. Hawaii is a very diverse state in terms of nature, climate, beaches, and surroundings and hence is a popular destination for tourists around the world.

9.Maryland – 32,131 km²

One of the smallest states in the United States located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the country. The capital of the state is Annapolis and it is a part of Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area. The highest point of the state is Hoye Crest on Backbone Mountain with an elevation of 1,020 meters. It is believed that the first human services in the state around the tenth millennium BC and later around 1000 AD, there are around 8,000 Native Americans that came to Maryland.

10.West Virginia – 62,756 km²

The state is located in the Appalachian region of Southern United States. The capital of the state is Charleston and it is also the largest city in the state. The highest point of the state is atop Spruce Knob that has a height of 1,482 meters and it is mostly covered by a boreal forest of dense spruce trees. 75% of the total area of Western Virginia is covered with forests. After the Wheeling Conventions of 1861, West Virginia has been declared as the state.
